Collection: MRD Pro Trimmers

The best MRD Pro trimmer depends on how you like to work and the type of detailing you do most often. Consider the blade width, cutting closeness, motor, weight and body design. The Smart Brain and Precision Smart Brain models offer brushless motors, adjustable blades and exposed blade designs for better visibility when outlining. The Vector and X-Pro ranges provide further options to compare. If possible, prioritise how the trimmer feels in your hand and how easily you can control it around hairlines, ears and beards.

Yes. MRD Pro trimmers are designed for close outlining and detailed work, making them suitable for creating sharp hairlines, beard outlines and clean edges. Models such as the Smart Brain feature wide T-blades and exposed skeleton designs that allow better visibility when working around tight areas. Blade adjustment also plays an important role in how closely a trimmer cuts. A correctly aligned blade, combined with controlled pressure and good technique, will help produce sharp lines without unnecessary irritation.

Clippers are generally used for removing bulk, fading, tapering and blending larger sections of hair. Trimmers have smaller cutting heads designed for more detailed work, such as lining up hairlines, defining beards and cleaning around the ears and neck. While a clipper can create a basic outline, a dedicated trimmer offers greater control for precise edges. Most barbers use both tools together, using the clipper for the main haircut before switching to a trimmer for the finishing details.

Selected MRD Pro trimmers feature fully adjustable blades that can be zero-gapped for a closer cut. Zero-gapping involves adjusting the stationary and moving blades to minimise the cutting gap, allowing the trimmer to cut closer to the skin. However, a closer blade setting isn't always better. Incorrect alignment can cause scratching or irritation, particularly around sensitive areas. Always follow the manufacturer's adjustment instructions and check the blade alignment before using the trimmer on a client.

Regular cleaning and blade maintenance help keep your MRD Pro trimmer cutting properly. After each haircut, remove loose hair from the blade using a cleaning brush and apply an appropriate blade disinfectant according to its instructions. Oil the blades as recommended by the manufacturer to reduce friction and wear. Periodically inspect the blade for damage, check its alignment and remove any built-up hair around the cutting head. If the trimmer starts pulling hair or cutting unevenly, clean and inspect the blade before considering a replacement.
